Fleeting & Fickle

So, honestly: who makes a blog, writes in it a few times, waits a year, and expects to reach a level of notoriety unprecedented in human history?

This guy.

Seriously. It's January. I wrote about scientology (which I still hate) in March. So I think the notoriety comes if you offer people something new each week. Or you might have to blow something up or sponsor a caper or something. If you know me (all three of you who I know and read this; I guess you're my "target audience?"), I do this sort of thing all the time. Weight lifting, running, decoupage, tact, all things I've started and given up. Well, no more! It'll be my New Year's Resolution, even though I don't believe in them. I sit around at work all day and even when I do my job to the fullest extent, I still have like 8 hours of free time. What job could I possibly have that could afford me such free time, you ask? Read my blog to find out! If you stick with me as I make this a habit, I think you'll find that it is enjoyable for all of us. Maybe I'll shape this into a review blog or a chronicle blog or a random blog or a dog blog or a bog blog (I bet there is a market for blogs about bogs! Plus, it's fun to rhyme)....

Huzah to the New Year and the New Blog Frontier!

It could work

Dear Terrorists~

I know you THINK you hate America but in actuality, you hate Scientology. So, since I've cleared that up for you, have at 'em.

Sincerely,
Me

P.S. You really hate Tom Cruise too.

Quit eating bad cheese

I keep having lots of strange dreams. I'm not sure why. Two nights ago I dreamt that a small girl on a bike rode up in front of my apartment and told me that someone died in my apartment and someone needed to keep their memory alive, so she was making me friends with them on myspace. Then I woke up and the bathroom door slammed. But that was because the windows were open and the wind started blowing. Still, I got up, exrtemely freaked out, closed all the windows and locked them, continued to check that they were locked and then tried to go to bed, but couldn't sleep because I kept feeling like someone was watching me. It turned out that it was the cat.

I had another dream last night that was really strange too but even though I've been up a half hour, and could remember the dream when I sat down to write this entry, in the process of writing, I seem to have forgot it. Strange, dreams are. Maybe I'll remember later.

In other news, the job goes well and I've taken to making my coffee with cinnamon in the brew basket. It tastes Christmassy. I learned it from TV. Hillary better loose.

MIA (not the singer)

So by my count, it's been 5 months and 11 days since I last posted. That's a long time. I believe I have some catching up to do.

September was the beginning of my adult apartment life. It's been pretty fun. Jamie and I get along pretty well. We have our tiffs, usually because I've done something stupid. I finally got a couch (and a chair!!!) and with my tax return this month I'll have actually paid it off. I went back to Illinois for Christmas and did not see everyone that I wanted to. I realized I'll probably always be a midwesterner for life. I was basically unemployed for about two months but now have a job at Banner Baywood as a monitor technician. What's a monitor technician do, I can hear you asking. I sit in front three screens with twelve banks each of cardiac telemetry monitors. I'm supposed to watch to make sure that patients hearts do what they're supposed to do and call the nurses when they don't. That's in theory. In practice it's calling four or five different people constantly in an attempt to get the lead patches put back on. I work three twelve hour shifts a week, which leaves me with four open days of nothing. I do believe I'm going to try to pick up some shifts at Old Chicago so I can make some more money because I can't just sit around all the time. I'll get fat.

That's basically my life these days. I've been reading a lot in my spare time, trying to religiously practice/play guitar, watching movies, and trying to work out. I miss my friends. I miss doing stuff but hopefully once I get a set schedule and make some money I can do fun stuff again. I'm looking into nursing schools out here because I've decided I'd like to be a nurse or at least try it. I'm going to try to get back into blogging so that people know what I'm doing these days in the desert. At the same time, let me know how you're doing!!

When you get up early....

...you end up having nothing to do all day.

In other news, 10 months ago I moved here and, in an effort to free up space in my car, I left my CRT monitor in Chicago with the plan of buying an LCD monitor when I arrived in Phoenix. Little did I know, my computer was so messed up, I couldn't just plug and play the $350 LCD monitor because my computer needed to have a lower refresh rate so the monitor could display. But, lo and behold, the display driver had an error on it. While pretending like I was a computer science major and insisting that I could fix it on a regular CRT and then hook it up again, I disabled the monitor and then was -3 steps on the process of "fixing" it and had no video signal. Then, after 9 months, I decicded to try again with the new approach of remembering that I'm a biologist and really know nothing about computers. That seemed to work and I could at least hook it up to another CRT to get my info. Then, I managed to hook it up to the internet and find a graphics driver and now I can use my computer and new monitor as it was intended.

So that's my life today. Computer back, AIM working with all my ingenious Away messages I composed throughout 4 years of college, and the maintenance people are not showing up at the appointed time to fix out pissing evaporation tube.

Also, I stumbled upon a YouTube video that was fun to watch but I don't know the story behind it. SO I decided to make one up. Like I said earlier, I have a lot of free time on my hands. Think of the following like a small setup for a fun video:

If Joe knew German, he would have known that the building he was in was the "Leipzig Firework Factory." And also, that sign he just passed had said, "No Smoking."

What one does, the other usually follows

This is a great idea: blogging to let everyone that I don't see or talk to everyday what exactly I do out here in the hot Southwest, which isn't much. But like most great ideas, it isn't my own; it originally was one of the Great DunkMcFunkersen or, as I've referred to him before, The Other Bryan. I usually like his ideas, so when he does something I like, I do it too. I did it with LiveJournal and MySpace, so it makes sense to do this too, so he can read about me as I read about him. I'll also follow his format, since I've always liked his links/humor/wit/observations. BUT everything else will be original. Well, at least what happens to me.

So where to begin. I moved into a new apartment, I need a couch, and a new job. Today I'm sitting on the floor (again, no couch), watching crappy TV since I woke up and waiting to go have lunch with the GF. After that I'll probably go into the office to let the apartment managers know that I'd like air conditioning that doesn't cause the apartment to flood every time it shuts off. And then I'll probably call a couple hospitals to try and find a job. Maybe a little Guitar Hero and some real guitar, followed by dinner, some Fantasy Football work, and probably bed. My life is not terribly interesting these days because I have no money really to make it interesting. Well, I'm off to start my shower and make some lunch and get the day started. I'll try to update at least 3 times a week, but odds are there will be nothing interesting really to see and you'll eventually not care about it.

But at least I'll have something to do now.
